HANDCRAFTED: Each Whale & Wasp Bed (WWB) is handcrafted from materials that are kind to our Mother Earth and free from chemicals. No electricity was used to make your bed. Elbow grease, human sweat, fire, and a Japanese style handsaw made your WWB.
We are not saying “no footprint,” if you’re still into that, but the craftsmanship of your WWB leaves a very teeny tiny one.
HOMEGROWN: The flowers, herbs shrubs, and plants of your WWB came to life in a backyard food forest in Ocean County, NJ. Each has been nurtured by two adults, two little humans, a golden retriever or two, and occasionally a grandmother.
We believe that growing plants in their native environment with attentive care sets the plants and you up for the best success.

The Chef is ripe and ready with edibles all year long. Begin with early spring vegetables and greens that will fill plates with healthly nutrients. Enjoy fresh berries as different varieties come into season one-by-one from spring to late summer, while a variety of herbs grow as a staple throughout the year. The chef just might have you making one less trip (we hope!) to the grocery store to get what you need for that savory soup, homemade pie, fresh bread, or seasonal salad. With a mix of herbs, edible flowers, veggies, and berries, there are so many savory and sweet options all year long to enrich your culinary feats.
The Florist gifts you with flowers all (most) months out of the year. Early spring bulbs start with pops of color and become the first flowers you place on your dinning room table or wherever you put your vase. Soon the cold melts away and early summer blooms paint a rainbow, and by midsummer you might be gifting your neighbors their own little bouquets to brighten their days. When the dog days are over, rich fall colors won’t disappoint.
Your plants will gift you with loose leaf herbal and flower petal teas all year long. From the first leaves of early spring that revitalize the body and replenish nutrients to the warming, calming brews to greet the longer nights. Late summer is plentiful with energizing infusions for hot days until fall comes around with late summer blooms to ease you into darker nights . Winter is covered by the dried leaves and flowers will have for when (and if) the snow’s coming down. This bed delivers more teas and potions than you can imagine once you get to know and love your plants. You might even become the neighborhood tea shop.

All Whale & Wasp beds are planted for you with a specially curated selection of perennial plants. Perennials come back year and year, which means each year your garden will grow stronger and more fruitful. Perennials require lower maintenance and establish growth for the long term.
Whale & Wasp beds are only perennials which is why you will not see plants like tomatoes, calendula, or sunflower.

All bed installations include healthy, nutrient dense, chemical-free soil. The best start you can give your garden is good growing soil. Since soil is such an important component, we want to take care of that for you!

While we don’t want to plant most beds in the shade of a tree, we do want to protect that plants from hot cloudless days—and we’re getting more of those with even more intense sun with each year.
This shade cloth also doubles as a way to contain more moisture in the soil, which means less watering!
Keep in mind the shade cloth is not permanent can be removed as needed or wanted buy unclasping the corner hooks.

We are not going to leave you hanging. Each bed comes with an online resource that outlines the basics of each plant in terms of care, harvesting, and growth. You’ll catch on quick with these perennials, but a little up-front support never hurts.
